  17. <p>    In the Nightmare on Elm Street horror movies, no one has
  18. ever succeeded in killing off the fiendish Freddy Krueger, who
  19. mutilates and murders teenagers in their sleep. But in toyland,
  20. Freddy has been given the ax. Last week Matchbox Toys
  21. acknowledged that it had halted production of its 17-in. talking
  22. Freddy doll. The company was bowing to pressure from the
  23. archconservative Rev. Donald Wildmon, who called for a boycott
  24. of stores selling the toy.
