- <p> In the Nightmare on Elm Street horror movies, no one has
- ever succeeded in killing off the fiendish Freddy Krueger, who
- mutilates and murders teenagers in their sleep. But in toyland,
- Freddy has been given the ax. Last week Matchbox Toys
- acknowledged that it had halted production of its 17-in. talking
- Freddy doll. The company was bowing to pressure from the
- archconservative Rev. Donald Wildmon, who called for a boycott
- of stores selling the toy.
